A human beings perspective

I am a human being, and this is my blog...

As we struggle to understand our human spirit on a daily basis, we are also faced with the reality of living in a world divided by religion, politics, culture and race. If we step back and look at the world as an 'observer', it is easy to see clearly, as statistics show, that the challenges we face as a planet are becoming worse. Even more alarming is that we seem to think that these problems such as famine, crime, pollution, disease, war, just to name a few, are all separate,
whereas many of us understand that they are all interconnected. They are merely the symptoms of a much bigger problem that we are facing. Yet we still remain in our little separate falsified 'universes' we've created for ourselves over the ages only to discover that these divisions are the fundamental reason we cannot move forward towards one common goal, to respect and care for the whole community of life.

The questions, 'who are we?', ‘why are we here?’ and 'what is our purpose?' At least in my opinion, are probably the most underrated questions we ask ourselves. We can ultimately say that at least we know we are sentient beings living on a planet teaming with life in all its biodiversity in which we are ALL a part of. So isn’t it fair to say that at least one of our purposes is to preserve that life within our capacity? What is it that compels us to ignore the fact that we are all a part of a larger ‘picture’ that we’ve only just begun to understand through the help of science? Has science offended us to the point where we can’t accept what small truths it reveals to us? Perhaps it is due to the dualism (religion vs. science) that has continued over the ages that has been holding us back as ‘skeptics’, or in more extreme cases, ‘hostages’. After all, wasn’t it science and its technological advancements that have helped us to understand the mysteries of physics and biology or the advances we’ve made in medical science? Where would we be without science and all of its technological advancements today? I’m not saying that science doesn’t exist without its faults. It IS ultimately man made, but it also has been working for us in one of the most important ways which we fail to realize. For the most part, science and technology is something that ALL humans can agree on, unlike most other dividing man made ‘ideas’.

If we expect to achieve any results to correct the problems we face as a society, we first need to examine, at the very root, what drives us, our spirit, or our ‘consciousness’ if I may. Getting back to the very basis as conscious beings, we need to find ways to bond, as we know this has worked for us to survive from our ‘early human’ beginnings, which goes back about 4 million years. We need to communication with each other to assist each other, working as a collective to recreate a harmonious existence on this planet through loving and caring, if we are ever to move towards any concept of peace. How can we even begin to envision peace on a global scale if we can't even grasp the concept of 'inner peace?' I truly believe that this is where we sell ourselves short. We don't allow it because we are confused, lost and caught in the web of the material world and its belief systems that we’ve helped create, and continue to create. We are wrapped up in our made up little warped dimensions or ‘divisions’, making ourselves believe that what we posses, believe, or what we do brings us happiness and joy. We then pursue others to follow, only to realize that this false sense of happiness, which falls very short of achieving an inner peace with ourselves, is merely an illusion created by our divided beliefs and our blinded addictions to the material world.

I'm almost certain that anyone reading this has probably felt inner peace at some point in their lives, but hasn't recognized it, or maybe some have, but did not embrace its true potential. I’m sure many of you probably experienced this sensation together with others as well. Have you ever stood and gazed across a beautiful view of a mountain range? Experienced a spectacular sunset, while sitting on a on a picturesque untainted beach or even walked through a magnificent forest? If you have, then you may know what I’m talking about. That moment in time, when you were at complete 'oneness' with your surroundings, the connectedness and awe that you felt with nature was probably the closest you've ever been to inner peace. Think about it. Some may even go as far to say it was another level of awareness. A serenity unlike any they’ve ever felt. Many would even attest to it being their connection to God, or Allah, or even Buddha, but the fact that remains is the FEELING was a mutual one.

Through no fault of our own, the powers that be have led us astray. We have allowed ourselves to disconnect from nature, and therefore, neglecting to preserve it in all its profound beauty. We are undoubtedly lured away from it by our daily obligations to work in a system we had no intention of creating for the material things that we absolutely DO NOT NEED. And yet, we still continue in this perpetual cycle of wanting MORE of what we really don't need, while the natural beauty of our life-sustaining ecosystems around us deteriorate before our blinded eyes. More importantly, we are disillusioned from reality furthermore, to believe that by producing more, and consuming more, will create ‘growth’ in the economy. Yet, what we fail to understand is that it is a cancerous ‘growth’ that simply destroys the very natural environment that gives us LIFE. Elementary arithmetic will tell you that our economic growth is dependent on a limited supply of natural resources, within a limited and very fragile biosphere. We are now living in a world where we are using up far too many natural resources far too quickly in a limited amount of space. You do the math.

Here is some more simple mathematics. Think of all the ‘do good’ organizations that exist in our world, Greenpeace, Amnesty International, World Wildlife Fund, Unicef, Doctors Without Borders, and many others, all doing their part in fighting the little ‘fires’ that emerge from our societies. When in reality, as this statistically shows, the fires just keep getting bigger and bigger, while most of us (80% or so) are doing NOTHING to put them out. What if we searched deeper towards the nucleus of WHY these fires are erupting? In doing so, we must remember to remain impartial.

“Society today, is composed of a series of institutions. From political institutions, legal institutions, religious institutions, to institutions of social class, familiar values, and occupational specialization. It is obvious, the profound influence these traditionalized structures have in shaping our understandings and perspectives. Yet, of all the social institutions, we are born into, directed by, and conditioned upon, there seems to be no system as taken for granted, and misunderstood, as the monetary system. Taking on nearly religious proportions, the established monetary institution exists as one of the most unquestioned forms of faith there is. How money is created, the policies by which it is governed, and how it truly affects society, are unregistered interests of the great majority of the population. In a world where 1% of the population owns 40% of the planets wealth. In a world where 34.000 children die every single day from poverty and preventable diseases, and, where 50% of the world’s population lives on less than 2 dollars a day… One thing is clear. Something is very wrong. And, whether we are aware of it or not, the lifeblood of all of our established institutions, and thus society itself, is money. Therefore, understanding this institution of monetary policy is critical to understanding why our lives are the way they are. Unfortunately, economics is often viewed with confusion and boredom. Endless streams of financial jargon, coupled with intimidating mathematics, quickly deters people from attempts at understanding it. However, the fact is: The complexity associated with the financial system is a mere mask. Designed to conceal one of the most socially paralyzing structures, humanity has ever endured.”
Peter Joseph “Zeitgeist: Addendum”

We stand at a critical moment in Earth's history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise. To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global
society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations.

Earth Charter “Preamble”

So I sit here, and have no alternative but to ask what the the world is waiting for? Well, for starters, according to psychologists, human beings are a very peculiar species, limited to the confines of their 'creature comforts' and false senses of security. Reluctant to educate ourselves about our ‘systems’, ultimately, accepting a ‘system’ we KNOW is very wrong and therefore CHOOSING to do NOTHING about it. Perhaps out of fear, or to the self absorbed materialistic lives we hold on to. So inevitably, we see no need to 'rock the boat' so to speak. At least not yet, but we CAN begin to awaken our consciousness. Let's just say that we can all agree that our planet could definitely use a little healing. It would definitely give the world a common goal, and would likely create stronger ties in the process, as we work towards ways to essentially enrich our lives, both through understanding our interconnectivity with nature, and the rudimentary connections we share as a human race, both spiritually and consciously, in the pursuit of the belief of a greater common good. Could this be a chance to open up the channels for world peace perhaps? We really wouldn't know unless we try.

"We are seeing how very important it is to bring about, in the human mind, the radical revolution. The crisis is a crisis of consciousness. A crisis that cannot anymore accept the old norms, the old patterns, the ancient traditions. Concidering what the world needs now, with all the misery, conflict, destructive brutality, aggression, and so on. Man is still as he was. Still brutal, violent, aggressive, acquisitive, competitive, and he has built a society along these lines. What we are trying in all these discussions and talks here is to see if we cannot radically bring about a transformation of the mind. Not accept things as they are… but to understand it, to go into it, to examine it, give your heart and your mind with everything that you have to find out. A way of living differently. But, that depends on you and not somebody else. Because in this there is no teacher, no pupil, there’s no leader, there’s no guru, there’s no master, no savior. You yourself are the teacher, and the pupil, you’re the master, you’re the guru, you are the leader, you are everything!
And to understand is to transform what is.” -
J. Krishnamurti

This is just a collective of my thoughts and perspectives according to my experiences, and to my (apparent current) knowledge, and you are welcome to prove me wrong by researching the facts that are stated in this document for yourselves. The only thing I can do is guide you in the right direction. However, it is completely up to YOU and your WILLINGNESS to WANT to seek the truth. I implore you to gather the knowledge for yourselves, and to come up with your own conclusions, or perhaps some ideas to help recreate a world where we can give the rights back to LIFE and let EVOLUTION take it's course. The problems we face as a society are not getting any better, and neither are our standards of living, and we are beginning to see that the crisis is at our feet. We must respect all life, and responsibly manage the usage of our planets natural resourses. We must find ways to live with the realization that we are all part of a much larger ecosystem, and that only by understanding it and interconnecting with it, we can begin to manifest the changes necessary for a better future . We at least owe this to our own survival and to our Planet Earth as a whole.

  1. Thank you, an interesting post that I agree quite strongly with. However, what are your thoughts on the idea that Peter Joseph's “Zeitgeist: Addendum” quote in itself might be a bit paralysing - if we are to take on board the notion that the financial situation is 'one of the most socially paralyzing structures' and that the powers that be pull all the strings that keep it that way, does that not bring feelings of powerlessness in the face of injustice where in truth there is much that can actually be done with little concern for the larger financial/political structures?
